I went to go get gas last night and the super chatty attendent (older dude named Arthur) asked me about the
fita on my wrist. Kudos to him for being the first person to actually notice it. Unless people just assume that I've jumped on the Kaballah bandwagon. It's been on my wrist for almost three months now, tied on during the first part of the Brazil trip when I went to the Igreja Nosso Senhor do Bonfim in Bahia. The tradition is to tie it on to your wrist with three knots - each knot represents a wish. You have to wear it until the ribbon or one of the knots breaks, at which point the wishes come true. Taking it off beforehand voids the wishes and there's no set amount of time before the ribbon falls off. I'm at the three month point and according to the link, it can be up to two years for some people.
At this point I don't even notice it anymore, other than to look at it on my arm and try to remember that I was actually in Bahia. I was getting over a cold that week and it was so humid in Salvador - it's like something that I dreamed. Also, considering some of the good fortune that I've had over the past 2 months, I'm wondering if anything lucky will even happen when it finally falls off.
